HOUSTON, TX (January 20, 2026) – The School of Science and Technology is honored to announce that the Texas Education Agency (TEA) has recognized the SST Advancement as the only school in Texas named as the 2025 recipient of the National Association of ESEA State Program Administrators (NAESPA) Distinguished School award for exceptional student performance and academic growth. This prestigious honor, awarded to only up to 100 schools nationwide each year, highlights the school’s exceptional achievement and commitment to student success. In addition to this award, the TEA has consistently graded SST Advancement as an A-Rated campus from 2021-2025 and also as a Purple Star campus that notably serves the unique needs of military-connected students.
SST Advancement serves a student population in which 75% of students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch. This recognition underscores the powerful impact charter schools can have on the students and families they serve. “We are honored that SST Advancement has been recognized by the Texas Education Agency and the Elementary and Secondary Education Act for our exceptional student performance and academic growth. This recognition reflects the dedication of our students, staff, and families, who work together every day to ensure high levels of learning for all”, says SST Advancement Principal, Susan Lindo.
The National ESEA Distinguished Schools Program, established in 1996, celebrates schools that have made significant improvements in education through the effective use of federal Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) funds. Schools are recognized in one of three categories:
- Category 1: Exceptional student performance and academic growth
- Category 2: Closing the achievement gap between student groups
- Category 3: Excellence in serving special populations of students (e.g., homeless, migrant, English learners)
SST is a tuition-free, public charter school that drives academic and socio-emotional development through a college-preparatory, STEM-based learning model. SST’s model is anchored on 21st-century skills, embraced by a character-building approach, and delivered in an enriching, safe, student-centered learning environment. SST is home to eight locations in the San Antonio area, with additional locations in the Houston area and Corpus Christi.
The 2025 National ESEA Distinguished Schools will be honored February 10–12, 2026, at the National ESEA Conference in Denver, Colorado. Learn more at www.eseanetwork.org/conference.
