Special Populations Programs
All Texas public schools are required to offer dedicated services to students with designated disabilities or special needs. These needs include supporting those with learning disabilities, English language learners, LGBTIQ students, students experiencing homelessness, students in foster care, and gifted and talented students.
English Language Learners
Many School of Science and Technology students are bilingual or speak and/or are learning English as a second language. English Language Learners (ELL) receive additional instruction to help them develop reading, writing and verbal skills for both academic and social settings.
SST has many programs designed for qualifying special needs students to receive additional support from their instructors, classroom accommodations and more. Our programs extend beyond the classroom to offer support to students and their families.
Gifted and Talented
In addition to the standard high-quality education at SST, Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) is available to qualifying K-12 students. GATE offers accelerated learning, enrichment activities, extended lab hours, and pull-out sessions.
SST Public Schools are not affiliated with any religious movement, organization, or belief system and are open to all students regardless of race, creed, nationality, or gender. SST firmly believes in supporting every child’s educational, social, and emotional well-being. We have a zero-tolerance bullying policy. Additionally, all instructors are dedicated to using preferred pronouns in the classroom.
